If you're tired of using blunt knives, or trying to sharpen
blunt knives unsuccessfully then this may be the product for you.
The Shinkansen 'Water' Sharpener is a 2 stage knife
sharpener ideal for most knives but especially Global, Porsche or
Asian Knives. Firstly the ceramic wheels need to be soaked for a
few minutes before use, which minimises friction and allows the
blade to slide through the wheels with ease. Then using both stages
of the product, a sharpness can be achieved that is unlike any
other. The coarse sharpener will take off the rough edges, so to
speak, and then the fine sharpener will finish the sharpening
process and leave the blade like a razor.
This product takes away the unnecessary effort
that comes with using a ceramic, steel or wet stone sharpener. It
will take a knife from completely blunt, to razor sharp in no time
at all. The only slight downside to the product, which is
unavoidable and comes with any sharpening product, is that some
minor scratches may be left along the blade. However this should
not put you off buying as they are no more than anything that would
occur in general use of the knives.
The unit itself is 7 x 21 x 5 cm so would be a
welcome addition to any countertop or cupboard, and would even fit
in a drawer. It weighs a mere 168g and is completely manual, so it
does not need to sit beside a power socket all the time. Also for
the small price of £21.49 this product is hard to turn down.
On Amazon.co.uk this product has received a
rating of 4.5 stars and 24 out of the 36 customers who have bought
and reviewed the product themselves gave the product 5 stars. Those
who bought the product and gave it a lesser rating could only
comment on the durability of the product, in which case it is most
likely being misused and handled too aggressively. As I have said
it takes the effort out of knife sharpening, that does not mean if
you put extra effort in you'll get sharper knives.
So if you want to bring your blunt knives back
to life, but don't want the effort associated with other methods
then this is the product for you, it's not too expensive, and it's
not going to disrupt your kitchen environment.
